Wimbledon

The day started at about 4:30 or so, from what I can recall. It's all a bit blurry and I'm hardly at my best early in the morning.

Karen was away in Australia, but I was off to Wimbledon with Liam, Kel and Jono. We drove across to Wimbledon, given that neither the tube or busses were running at the time, to arrive around 6:00 and join the queuing masses. Having not bought tickets ahead of time we found ourselves 2000 or so people back from the front of the line - behind those who'd slept overnight or arrived even earlier!

Thankfully, London had turned on a real summer's day. It was a rather nice change to sit around with nothing much to do other than enjoy the sun. By 10 o'clock, the line started moving and we eventually came to find ourselves inside the grounds of The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

With a general admission ticket we made our way towards court 2, where Lleyton Hewitt was set to play only to find the stand full of Aussies thinking similarly. After queuing for another hour or so, we eventually managed to actually see some tennis.

After Lleyton cruised to a comfortable win, we caught the beginning of a Venus Williams match before adjourning for some refreshments! Feeling refreshed, we caught a couple of doubles matches on the outside courts from the comfort of some courtside seats in the shade.

Day soon gave way to evening and we ended our stay by watching Wayne Arthurs and Alecia Molik battle it out with Lukas Dlouhy and Eva Birnerova. Sadly the Aussies weren't the victors on the day, but with the sun setting we headed back to Angel for a well deserved night's sleep.
